It's a shame the Dragon Age game doesn't look very good and will probably flop. EA will use this as a middle finger to people wanting single player games and tell their investors that gamers don't want single-player games.

I think Valve really should just require developers to implement a setting that allows the user to BYPASS the game launchers. It's really irritating having to install all these different launchers to play the game. The worst is when you download the game then it opens another launcher that has to finish downloading the game in the launcher.

The thing the console manufacturers fucked up on was believing that any single title sells one console over the other. A game selling a system was a true statement back in the 90s when online multiplayer was a PC only thing and it was technically difficult due to dial up Internet at that point what console your friend has was nearly irrelevant. Once online gaming came to consoles the sole deciding factor for the overwhelming majority of consumers on which box to buy is what their friends are on. The idea of a "system seller" game is mostly dead outside the customers that buy multiple consoles in a generation and even with those consumers they likely would have bought them anyways.

They're still throwing IPS displays in devices that cost 2x the price of the SD which has an OLED display. That's the biggest thing they're doing wrong besides cost.

gonna use this new recording thingy most likely, having dedicated OBS to do the same thing wasn't very good for me, too many settings and I feel it when it's recording, but simplicity of Steam recording software sounds really cool to me and the fact that will be very lightweight is amazing

It might be a useful tool for diagnostics to add to steamDB to show where games have issues or aren’t playable.

I would love for the steam deck to return too, I personally probably wouldn't buy one as I have a deck and a PC so it fills no need I have. I would like to see it return though because I want as many people on the PC platform as possible I think it is the best way to go and the steam box could have been (through better marketing) a great gateway to the platform for console gamers due to its plug and play nature.

To be fair I don't mind that Valve finds useful plugins and implements it into SteamOS. After all they are free and not taking peoples livelihoods away unlike Apple. Who has a whole host of advantages over the average developer. They own the platform you use, the store which sells it, AND they make a competing product.... That's just evil.

I'm very okay with Valve sherlockmaxxing this B. Installing Decky and all the plugins is a hassle and it's a turn-off for casual users. I think Valve should pay some sort of faux-IP rights kickback to devs involved with the plugins, but even that is a huge slippery slope. Sherlock away, Valve.

We are at the moment in gaming, when companies are proud, that singleplayer game doesn’t require online access and micro transactions. That’s pretty sad.

I have been using NVIDIA Shadowplay for years now. It just works great. This may replace it. Seems to work similarly. But will have to try it out to and see. I love that it is coming to steam deck.That is something that would be great. I hope it works with everything that is playing on the Steam Deck. Like emulation and such.

Great guide for install. Have you come across an issue where the deck fails to initialise D4 (even on Proton Experimental) because it says it can't recognise the GPU? Very frustrating! I've not found a fix yet!

This is amazing, I wonder if it would be far fetched if they added special effects and such to edit our recordings, and have us upload directly to youtube so we don’t have to hold onto the videos to take up storage

I like that it seems to only record the game area. When I played 4:3 game it only recorded the game, without huge black bars.

The only real advantage Steam Deck competitors have is more powerful hardware. But if you're like me and you have a Steam Deck and maybe some of the competitors, you'll realize that the obsession with having the most powerful system is not the mentality to have with a handheld. I'm a PC master race guy-I build my own PCs and love doing it. But the Steam Deck? It's not about playing games at 500fps and 8k for me. It's about tackling my massive backlog of games, and it's perfect for that. Games I would've never touched are now super appealing, and it's amazing to play them anywhere I want. Sometimes, I even buy new games just to play them on my Steam Deck. I recently got Dead Island 2 during a sale and haven't even started it on my PC-only on my Deck. Playing in bed, on the couch, or even on the toilet is really nice, and the Deck handles it perfectly. For those with an LCD Steam Deck, I'd recommend lowering the watt and GPU clock speed a bit and locking the screen refresh rate. This helps keep the battery and temperature in check, and it keeps the fan quieter, which is important to me because a loud fan can ruin the experience.

The feature wasn't sherlocked. Due to the complexity and api features they also implemented and integrated as an api with Dota 2 and CS2 for automated highlight markers this goes beyond the scope of any third party plugin that integrated OBS replay functionality. They probably started working in parallel or possibly even before the community plugin development started. I could see it with the vibrancy plug-in and sliders but even there it just feels like they copied android phone settings where the phone defaults to a natural saturation but you can tweak your OLED screens to be more vibrant. But then again this is mostly semantics since in the end the community plug-ins were all open source for the community and now more people will get the same features and even improved versions of them. And as with most "gimmicky" and "tinkery" open source tools and add-ons they usually get made because the author wants a feature and likes the challenge to make it and wants to share the experience with others. With Valve taking over similar functionalities and adding more options to then they allow those 3rd pary developers to focus on other cool projects so unlike with other cases "stealing" features this is a win for everyone and no one loses. I am not into the apple ecosystem but to me most of the times when they "stole" a feature it has been at the expense of those 3rd party developers that often even got burried in the app store by apple tweaking their recommendation algorithms and search results.

Every PC with Steam gets it, not just Steam Deck, and there's a lot more to it like timelines, device interoperability using QR codes, dedicated GPU hardware usage - don't let that person trick you and listen to the video if this sounds interesting.
